Anytime a person with a kid in their life has asked for my holy grail toy (and as Wirecutter’s former editor of baby and kid coverage, and a person generally known to be opinionated, I’ve had this happen to me somewhat often), I’ve had one answer: Magna-Tiles. Alongside Lego, I’m convinced that these colorful plastic shapes with magnetized edges offer just about the longest arc of playability across childhood.
